The Latest Mustang GTD Ditches Paint for Pure Carbon

Ford has introduced the GTD Liquid Carbon, a more radical variant that removes paint and uses bonded carbon-fiber panels. It weighs about 13 pounds less than the GTD Carbon Series with the Performance package, aided by carbon-fiber door panels. Under the hood sits the 5.2-liter supercharged V8, delivering 815 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, paired with a semi-active rear inboard pushrod suspension. The Liquid Carbon keeps the GTD Performance package with 20-inch magnesium wheels and Black Brembo brakes, while dialing back some sound deadening and adding extra aero parts. The standout is a continuous carbon weave that runs from hood to roof to wing, creating a unified, sculptural surface.

Ford plans to deliver the first Liquid Carbon Mustang GTD in October, and the model sits above the base GTD price of about $327,000. It will join the Spirit of America variant in the lineup, signaling a new ambition for the Mustang family.

This is more than a paint job. Ford uses carbon fiber to signal a shift in how the company sells performance. The weave becomes a design element and a badge of exclusivity that might attract buyers who want rarity as part of the experience. The price tag will determine whether this is a lasting trend or a collector's curiosity.

From a market perspective the Liquid Carbon targets a tiny audience. If enough buyers chase scarcity and the promise of lighter, stiffer construction, Ford could push carbon-focused options across other models. If not, the car may live as a spectacular footnote in Mustang lore.
