R Badge Redefines Shelby Super Snake

Shelby American rolled out the 2026 Wide Body Super Snake-R prototype during Collector Car Week in Monterey. Built on a Dark Horse donor, it delivers 850 plus horsepower on 93 octane with a choice of a Tremec six speed manual or a 10 speed automatic. The car gains a fully adjustable coil over independent suspension, metal spherical bearings, a rear shock tower harness, and wider tracks with 335 section tires. Shelby says the setup delivers the best handling prowess in the companys history.

Weight is kept at 4 004 pounds thanks to carbon fiber and magnesium components, while power rises nearly 40 percent and the brakes are beefier. The aero is functional carbon fiber with integrated cooling, and magnesium and carbon fiber parts keep weight in check. Production is previewed with a price starting at 224 995 including the donor Dark Horse, making it the first Super Snake to wear the R badge.

The move signals a shift from pure power bragging to track ready capability. The R badge is meant to signify sharper handling, not just faster acceleration, a bet on the market for cars that truly perform on corners. It also raises questions about value and accessibility in a segment where price tags run well into six figures. If Shelby can prove reliability and dealer support alongside this level of performance, the Super Snake-R could influence how muscle cars are tuned for real world track use.
