Pixel 10 camera expands with Camera Coach and 100x Pro Res Zoom

Google has unveiled the Pixel 10 series with a new telephoto on the base model and a 20x Super Res Zoom, matching Pro models in zoom capability. The 10.8MP telephoto lens on the base Pixel 10 enables up to 20x zoom, while the main sensor is 48MP, down from the Pixel 9's 50MP. This is a trade-off Google is making to push stronger zoom performance on the entry model.

On the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL, Pro Res Zoom replaces Super Res Zoom and uses AI to reach up to 100x magnification. The triple-lens layout remains, but the upgrade relies heavily on software to upscale and enhance distant subjects. All Pixel 10 models gain enhanced Gemini AI features, including Camera Coach for real-time feedback on framing and settings. Guided Frame now offers full scene descriptions to assist users with visual impairments. Best Take is automated, selecting the best expressions from up to 150 quick snaps for group shots. Built-in C2PA support catalogs AI edits for transparency. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold adds Instant View for quick photo reviews next to the viewfinder and benefits from a bigger internal display. Portrait mode gets improved segmentation for sharper subject separation. In video, all Pixel 10 models can shoot at 24fps across resolutions, with 8K video at 24fps on Pro models via Video Boost. These features position the Pixel 10 as a more capable tool for aspiring filmmakers while keeping a focus on accessibility and authenticity.

The base model’s hardware zoom signals Google’s willingness to trade sensor resolution for reach, betting on AI to fill the gaps. That shift underscores a broader industry move toward software augmentation in camera quality rather than hardware only.
