Phison Acknowledges SSD Failures Linked to Windows 11 Updates

Phison controller-based SSDs appear to have been affected by the latest Windows 11 cumulative updates, KB5063878 and KB5062660, causing failures during large file writes. The PS5012-E12 controller is among those affected, and reports span brands such as Corsair Force MP600, SanDisk Extreme Pro, and Maxio SSD. Most incidents have been reported by Japanese users, and Phison is currently the only major vendor to publicly acknowledge the problem.

Phison says it is testing and collecting crash reports with partners and will deliver firmware updates and advisories through those partners rather than directly to consumers. The company says it will provide updates as the investigation proceeds. In the meantime, users with affected drives are advised to avoid large write operations until remediation is available.

This incident shows how software patches can ripple into hardware products. A Windows security update meant to tighten protection ends up triggering storage problems, testing the resilience of the entire ecosystem.
