Simon Stanbrook describing the pub philosophy

County awards highlight how pubs are building local identity through food and hospitality. The Crown's Gloucestershire win shows a model where a pub linked to a boutique hotel becomes a destination, not just a place to drink. It reflects a broader trend of travelers seeking warmth, good ingredients and a sense of place.

The event also underscores the bustling, competitive nature of the pub sector. With a national winner, regional honors and new accolades, pubs must balance tradition with modern expectations, from menu quality to the experience surrounding a friendly pint. The awards may lift tourism and local pride while inviting scrutiny of funding, staffing and sustainability in busy hospitality sites.

The crown may attract more visitors, but the story stays in the kitchen and the dining room.
