Patriots offense builds early rhythm in Minnesota

The Patriots rolled out their No. 1 offense for the first two drives in Minnesota. The unit produced a punt on the opening series and then found the end zone on the next, signaling some early rhythm after a week of tough practice against the Vikings. The first drive nearly produced an interception as Drake Maye misfired on a couple of passes and a tipped ball by Mack Hollins almost changed the possession.

On the second drive the Patriots moved 51 yards in nine plays after a punt return near midfield. TreyVeon Henderson finished the sequence with an eight yard touchdown run. Maye completed four of seven passes for 47 yards, while Henderson had four carries for 20 yards. Minnesota did not play its starters, limiting the test but giving New England a clearer view of its options at the position.

Taken as a two drive sample, the performance shows both promise and rough edges. Maye looks comfortable when protected and later phases of the drive could reveal more accuracy in tight windows. The near interception on the first drive underscores the need for cleaner decision making, while the touchdown drive hints at a scheme that can generate chunk plays with Henderson in the backfield.

But the test is limited by the absence of Vikings starters. The Patriots will need to translate this small sample into consistency against better competition. If Maye and Henderson can carry this momentum, the offense would gain much needed confidence entering the regular season, though the coaching staff will watch closely for errors that can be exploited by tougher defenses.
