Park scientists discovered the feature on April 10, 2025, confirming it emerged as a result of steam-driven blasts over several months. Using satellite imagery and acoustic sensors, experts tracked the evolution from bare ground in October 2024 to a filled pool with warm silica-rich water by February 2025. The pool is approximately 13 feet wide and has a water temperature of around 109 degrees Fahrenheit, displaying a vivid blue color from high levels of dissolved silica.
