Activision Blizzard announced Wuyang as the next playable hero for Overwatch 2. He will be available in a limited Hero Trial from August 14 to 18, with a full release planned for Season 18, which begins on August 26. A new gameplay trailer shows his kit, including the Xuanwu Staff weapon, Restorative Stream, Rushing Torrent, Guardian Wave, and the Tidal Blast ultimate.

Season 18 will also refresh Stadium and bring changes to several heroes, including Pharah, Winston, and Brigitte, as well as updates to Route 66 and London. The update also adds new game modes, a Draft Mode, new All-Star rewards, Endorsements, and more.

Wuyang's arrival follows a familiar pattern for live service games: release a hero through a trial, tease the kit in a trailer, then anchor the launch to a seasonal update. It gives players a reason to log in again while the developers monitor balance and feedback.

His hybrid, mobile design suggests a flexible role that could shift the meta depending on how players adapt and how maps interact with his abilities. The real test will be balancing and long-term relevance, not just novelty.
