A wildfire near Keratea in the Attica region grew rapidly as winds reached up to 8 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts of 9, hampering firefighting efforts. Seven areas have been evacuated and roads cut as flames moved across fields toward residential areas. A force of 190 firefighters, seven ground teams, 44 vehicles and the mobile operations centre Olympus are on scene, supported by 11 aircraft and seven helicopters. Fire crews from the Czech Republic and Romania have joined the effort, and army engineers are providing heavy machinery. Messages from the 112 civil protection service urged thousands to leave affected areas.

Later on Friday, another large wildfire broke out in Helidoni near Ancient Olympia. Officials say embers carried by the wind are the greatest danger as the fire advances toward forests and villages. High voltage power lines pass through the area and crews are racing to stop the flames from reaching them. Evacuations were expanded to Grammatikos, Lantzoi, Agios Georgios Lantzoïou, Pournari and Irakleia in the Ilia regional unit as crews battle the flames with six aircraft and three helicopters aiding from above. One person with severe burns was taken to hospital after being trapped at the Helidoni football ground. About 80 firefighters, three ground teams and 25 vehicles are on site, with local authorities assisting.
