However, the brightness of the nearly full moon may hamper visibility, as about 84 percent of its surface will be illuminated. To maximize the experience, viewers are encouraged to head to the eastern foothills, mountains, or desert areas, where light pollution is minimal. The best viewing time is from midnight until dawn. A period of 20 to 30 minutes for eyes to adjust to the dark will enhance the chances of spotting meteors, which emerge from the atmospheric entry of ice and dust from Comet Swift-Tuttle.
