EACH opens charity shop in Norwich Castle Street former Body Shop

East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) will open a new charity shop on August 14 in the building that previously housed The Body Shop on Castle Street in Norwich. The Body Shop occupied the premises for more than 40 years before its January closure. Signage has gone up and new clothing rails are in place as stock is moved in.

Kim Jewell, 22, will take the role of store manager after rising through EACH's ranks, including a stint at the Unthank Road shop and a recent move to manage the Wymondham store. Tegen Jones will be the deputy manager, also previously with the Wymondham branch. The charity invites locals to volunteer and provided the emails Kimberley.Jewell@each.org.uk and Tegen.Jones@each.org.uk for those interested. Sarah Throssell, EACH's head of retail central operations, said the move places the shop in a prime city location and will complement existing stores, strengthening EACH's footprint across Norwich. She added that the building is iconic and that the team looks forward to welcoming customers through the doors.

The building’s heritage and the store’s renewal

"It’s also a perfect complement to our existing shops in the area, strengthening our portfolio across the city."

The expansion fits with EACH’s Norwich retail footprint

This move shows how a charity retail network can anchor a historic urban space while refreshing a neighborhood storefront. A new shop in a familiar corner signals continuity for Norwich shoppers and a tangible way for the community to support children’s hospices. The emphasis on internal leadership and a volunteer call to action highlights the backbone of such shops: people, not just goods.

At the same time, the launch will test whether a large city center site can attract steady footfall and donations, especially as competition from other retailers remains strong. By promoting local involvement and a clear progression path for staff, EACH signals a sustainable model meant to endure beyond the opening week. The real measure will be how the store sustains donations, volunteer turnout, and local engagement over time.
