HERRIMAN — The man who drowned at Blackridge Reservoir Saturday evening was identified by the University of Nebraska at Omaha as Deng Mayar, 22, a member of the university's men's basketball program. Police said he and a second man, Sa Mafutaga, 21, were in distress around 6 p.m. Mafutaga was hospitalized and is expected to recover. The reservoir remained closed as investigators worked at the scene.

UNO officials said Deng joined the program this summer and had previously played at Judge Memorial High School in Magna and at the University of North Dakota. Coach Chris Crutchfield called the loss devastating and noted that Deng had made progress and helped the team culture. University Chancellor Joanne Li and Vice Chancellor and Athletic Director Adrian Dowell offered condolences. As of Sunday, Blackridge Reservoir remained closed.
