Around a Sun-like star known as HOPS-315, astronomers located signs of planet formation just 1,300 light-years from Earth. Using the James Webb Space Telescope and the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array, researchers detected warm silicon monoxide gas and crystals of silicate minerals signaling the early stages of planet formation. This marks the first time scientists identified the initial process of planets forming around a star beyond our Solar System. Astronomer Melissa McClure noted the importance of this finding, as it may provide insights into how our own Solar System formed. Other researchers, like Edwin Bergin, emphasized that this phenomenon had never been observed before outside our solar system.
