The other pedestrian, a woman in her 60s, was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.
Three men aged 53, 57 and 46, from Whittle-le-Woods, Middlewich and Congleton respectively, were arrested on Friday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and have been released under investigation. Lancashire Police said the inquiry is ongoing. Detective Sergeant Joe Ghigi urged anyone who witnessed the crash or who has video footage to contact the police.
